Michael McFadyen's Scuba Diving, Bali Hai, Indonesia
In 2023 I travelled to Tulamben for the third time and spent just over two weeks diving the north-eastern coast of Bali. I used Liberty Dive Resort, click here to read about the town and dive operations. This was one of a number of dive sites I had not visited on previous trips. There are literally hundreds of potential dive sites located within a few kilometres of Tulamben but only a dozen or so are able to be visited.
Bali Hai is located about 3.3 kilometres to the south-east of Tulamben (in a straight line) and is one of the more distant local dive sites. An approximate GPS mark for the dive spot is S8° 17.64" E115° 36.67" (using WGS84 as the datum).

The site is located a short distance off the main road down a rough track. This is smaller setup than other sites, but still has a table, toilet and showers. Not as many people seem to go here and in 2024 I did not dive there in 40 dives. I did however do a drift dive from a spot to the south-east called Noisy Reef which ended right near here. This was when diving with Amed Dive Center from their boat.
The dive starts just south-east from the table area and at first the bottom as you walk in is black sand. Then there are some larger rocks and down the right hand side there are more rocks and reef. There are moorings and ropes all over the place.

On this dive I went down to 28 metres along the rocky area. We saw ribbon eels, quite a few shrimps and many nudibranchs. On the rocks, especially in the shallower area, there are plenty of hard corals. There were a few anemones with the resident clownfish too. There were plenty of tropical species in this area too.
This was a very good dive and I am not sure why I did not dive it again in 2024 as a shore dive. When I did the boat drift dive I quite enjoyed the area which was part of this site.
