25 July 2025 - Pistol Crack South
First dive after trip to the Simpson Desert. Dive on Russ's boat. Strong W wind but seas very sloppy. Anchored to the south of where we used to dive here, about 6 years since I have dived the actual location. Dropped over the wall to a cave which had hundreds of yellowtail and some yellow-finned pomfrets in and around it. Went S following a well for a bit and then W into a sort of cove and then E. Then N back past anchor to an area with lots of boulders. Found the others reel line here and then followed it back to anchor. Then S to the cove area and back. A different dive to the one we normally did here but nice. Visibility good.

25 July 2025 - PJ Drift
Second dive, did a drift south from the Desalination Plant Inlets. Dropped straight down and was between 2 & 3 but S. Went to 3 & 4 and then W to a wall at about 19 m and followed this S with a very slight current. At one time we were in 14.5 m and could see white water above. Stayed about 14 to 16 m for 15 mins and then dropped back to around 17-18 m for 8 mins and then shallower to start ascent. Swam E while ascending to make sure not near the rocks. Ended up about 400 m S. So many PJs, one cave had at least 30 piled up inside. They were all over the place. A large wobbegong shark, Kyle saw a bullray and we heard whales for a bit. A good dive. Visibility good.

26 July 2025 - Henry Head
Back on MakCat for a club dive. Ended up two boats with seven divers, a few pulled out so one boat also pulled out. Forecast was not good, very strong NE winds and large NE swell and rain. It rained from 4 am till 6 am and then stopped. No wind as we headed out but it picked up later, we were pretty sheltered. Went S for 18 mins and then back past anchor for 5 mins and back. Nothing really special seen, a wobbegong shark, a couple of small moray eels, a six-spined leatherjacket was about it. First group and the other boat saw 3 RIF and a blue devilfish! Much better dive than expected. Visibility fair.

27 July 2025 - Bare Island Deep Wall
First dive at Bare Island since 13 May! Absolutely flat seas, so went off the W point and out to the wall. Very cold 15C. Viz was about 5 m out there and perhaps 7 shallower. Could not find the sea horse on the wall, may be gone now. Very few nudibranchs, only purple dragons and a couple of pink okenias. A few PJs, lots of small leatherjackets, no pipefish or PPH. A few moray eels, no RIF but found the big belly sea horse near STR. A nice relaxing dive. Visibility fair.

29 July 2025 - Inscription Point
First dive here since 12 April! Incoming tide, blue water, flat seas and about 12-15 m viz. Very little current so easy swim. Only had 190 bar so only did 69 mins. Lots of PJs, no sea dragons, only one big belly sea horse now. The kelp has all been ripped out and is quite sparse. Lots of opera house and tritonia nudibranchs and quite a few other species as well. Ron found a spindle cowrie and later the grey BIA, but I had already headed back. I also saw a fiddler-ray at the start. A very nice dive. Visibility good.

13 August 2025 - Inscription Point
First dive for 15 days due to over 200 mm of rain and huge seas. Water was quite dirty and cold for top 2 metres and then 6-7 metres visibility and warm 17C. Much better than expected. Did a very slow 47 min trip to Big Rock and then back for 86 mins all up. Not many nudibranchs, one opera house the only special thing. Could not find the grey anglerfish that Ron saw last dive, others have not been able to find it either. Two PPH, the white one on Little Big Rock and another just before. No sea dragons, but a fiddler-ray and a bullray as well as many PJs. Could not find Vic, the BBSH on her normal rock. Found her about 10 m W, looks much healthier than last dive. A nice relaxing dive. Visibility fair.

16 August 2025 - Yellow Rock
Club boat dive. Flat seas and less wind than forecast, none actually. A bit of current from N all the way to bottom but blue water, at least 20 m viz. Idiot fishers on shore not happy about us anchoring here, even though we were at least 50 m off the rocks. Went N for 25 mins and then back to the anchor. Plan was to do a second dive at Magic Point but another boat from the club advised no sharks there. Huge numbers of one-spot pullers and lots of silver sweep. Some bait fish up high, could see surface from 22 metres. Some PJs, a few comb wrasse and blue gropers. A huge bullray seen as we ascended. A great dive considering the rain and sea conditions the past two weeks. Visibility very good.

29 August 2025 - Bare Island Deep Wall
First dive in 13 days due to rain and bad weather. More coming, so last dive for a while again. Millpond seas so went in off W point. Very dirty and cold 16C top two metres then warmer 18C and 7 metres. No sea horses on wall or at STR, no PPH or pipefish at all. One RIF near OHR, three moray eels, one tiny. A blue devilfish in Corner Cave and lots of PJs, at least 20 or more. Kyle said he saw two wobbies as well. A nice relaxing dive although the wind came up while under and exit a little harder than normal. Visibility fair.

2 September 2025 - Inscription Point
Seas again not good on the weekend, but dropped a lot by today. Still very dirty and cold top 4-5 metres but below that 5-7 metres. It was almost low tide so swimming into a current. Could hear whales for about 5 minutes mid dive. Found two sea dragons, one way past LBR and the other towards The Monuments. A white PPH on LBR, the red one was not there. The sole remaining BBSH, Vic, was not on normal rock but has moved to 5 m W of the basketstar. Lots of PJs and horned sharks, including one small and one eating an egg. Not many nudibranchs but a large sole. As mentioned, went W past exit for about 6 mins, only the one sea dragon. A nice relaxing dive.

3 September 2025 - Pizza Reef
Well, a f#@ked up dive! Flat seas but a little bit of current from the north. First, forgot my two dive computers on the boat and did not realise till I was on the bottom. Fixed up the anchor and then found that one of my buddies had not yet appeared. The other one indicated he was off to the east so we went over there. Soon we saw his two lights so I signalled him. Made the assumption that he had seen us as the lights appeared to shake up and down., Waited but he never appeared. Went further east and nothing. Obviously he did not hold onto the anchor line and has ended up way off the reef on sand. I signalled to first buddy to go back to anchor. There I indicated I would ascend and he could stay if he wanted to. He did and I went up. Counted out a short 1 minute stop and surfaced. Buddy two is on the end of an extended mermaid line. Blokes on the boat noticed him surface well behind the boat and extended the mermaid and one swam out to him. All good in the end. Total dive about 15 minutes I reckon. Visibility good!

4 September 2025 - Inscription Point
Took Andy from British Columbia, ex-marine biologist. Very flat seas. Went to left looking for sea dragons but despite seeing one there two days ago, none. Did not find the other one to right or the one that a friend saw earlier today either. Showed him the white PPH on LBR, the BBSH Vic still in same spot as last dive, various nudibranchs, PJs and horned sharks, a very large eagle ray, a fiddler-ray, a sole and much more. He was very happy despite not seeing the sea dragons. Visibility very poor at first but when tide changed about 35 mins, much better, fair.

6 September 2025 - Inscription Point
Club shore dive, only myself and one other diving, organiser was sick but turned up. Tank I used leaked since filling, only had 100 bar, but still did 40 minutes. Viz down heaps compared to during the week, outgoing tide and only 3 m. Not much seen really, the white PPH, lots of PJs, no sea dragons again, only go to LBR so could not see BBSH. Not the greatest dive. Visibility very poor.

9 September 2025 - Pizza Reef
Club boat dive. Millpond seas and little wind. Anchored N end of the gap. Dirty top 4 m but below that 10-12 m viz. Lots of yellowtail here. Went to Cave and found two donut nembrothas. Second group saw a blue devilfish in Cave. Then to S. Found two more donuts and then another one heading out across the sand to the flat rock. Then to gorgonias and then back to the anchor. Then down gap and up to top of the reef and then ascend. Very good dive. Saw humpback whales and dolphins on way back to Port Hacking. Visibility good.

14 September 2025 - Inscription Point
Last minute ran a dive planned by someone else but who is moving overseas. Cancelled yesterday's boat dive due to swell. Still up a bit and had to time it getting in and out. Very dirty top layer due to 150+mm falling Wednesday and Thursday. Lots of surge too as 12 second period. Went down almost to BR. Found one sea dragon on sand before Split Rock, a large yellow boxfish. The white PPH was missing from LBR but soon after I found a red one. Vic the BBSH has moved back to her normal rock. On the way back ATJ showed me two more red PPHs. Lots of PJs and one very large bullray. Not the greatest dive due to surge and sand flaoting in the water. Visibility poor.
